PERSONAL INSTRUCTION

ECBA has a growing staff of highly qualified instructors. We make sure that each instructor has qualities that would make every customer at ECBA confident, secure and proud.

Each instructor knows the game, and how to teach it. On top of that, our staff is fun to be around! Educating athletes from all levels and playing abilities can be complex, so we choose our staff very carefully.

Our staff is a mix of current & former:

Professional Athletes (Major and Minor League Baseball)
Division I & II College Athletes
College & High School Coaches
College Strength & Conditioning Coaches

ECBA provides hitting, pitching, and fielding lessons for both baseball and softball athletes.

ABOUT

East Coast Baseball Academy is Charleston's premier site for baseball and softball training. It is a one of a kind, air-conditioned indoor baseball/softball facility.

We offer 15ft high batting cages with turf flooring, 2 HitTrax Simulators, 2 Hack Attack baseball pitching machines, 1 Spinball Baseball pitching machine,1 Spinball Softball pitching machine, a separate pitching area with regulation pitching mound as well as two plyowalls for weighted ball training. All cages have tees, L-screens, balls and everything you may need to work on your game.

Private one-on-one training is available from some of Charleston's finest trainers, including former major and minor league players, former and current college players and coaches,
active high school coaches and special guests.

birthday parties, or just to have fun!

Jeremy Wagner

Owner

Playing Experience:

Jeremy played four years as an outfielder at the Division 1 level. He played at Austin Peay State University(Clarksville, TN) for his first two years and transferred to Towson University(Towson, MD) where he finished his college career. In Jeremy’s junior year at Towson, he had an impressive 19-game hit streak.

Coaching Experience:

Jeremy has coached two varsity high school baseball seasons in Virginia for a nationally ranked team (Miller School of Albemarle), where he was the outfield/hitting coach and helped lead them to a state championship in 2025. He has also coached travel baseball for two seasons as an assistant/ head coach.

Jeremy is now one of the co- owners of ECBA and is excited to bring his passion and love for the game to the Charleston area. Jeremy has a strong background in baseball, as his dad (Billy Wagner) played 16 years in the MLB and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025. Jeremy’s older brother (Will Wagner) is currently in the big leagues with the San Diego Padres

Gavin Birkhimer

Baseball Instructor

Gavin played collegiately at Surry Community College and UVA-Wise prior to coaching at the college level at Averett University. At Averett U., Gavin was responsible for the development of the hitters and outfielders. He also has head coaching experience leading the Pineville Porcupines, a collegiate wood bat league team in the ONSL.

In addition to coaching, Gavin is currently an elementary school teacher in the Charleston area and is passionate about helping our youth develop their skills, confidence and character both on and off the field.

ENGLAND SMITH

Hitting and Pitching Instructor

England brings an impressive resume to East Coast Baseball Academy. The Nashville, TN native attended Walters State CC, one of the top junior college programs in the country, where he was named conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012 as well as First-Team All-Conference. The hard-throwing left-hander transferred to the University of Tennessee and eventually finished his collegiate career at Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky.

Smith went on to play professionally for the Glacier Outlaws of the Mount Ranier Professional Baseball League before relocating to Charleston, SC.

CHRIS HENDRICKS

Hitting and Catching Instructor

Chris Hendricks is a former assistant baseball coach at Marietta College in Marietta, OH. Chris offers one-on-one hitting and catching lessons at ECBA and coaches in our East Coast Bombers program. Prior to coaching at his alma mater, Chris helped lead the Pioneers to the D3 National Championship as a player.

CADE HALEMANU

Baseball PItching Instructor

Cade Halemanu was a 10th round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022 after a standout career at the University of Hawaii. The Honolulu, HI native was All-Conference in both his junior and senior seasons before beginning his professional career. Cade played 3 seasons in the Rays organization, including stints here in Charleston with the Riverdogs before injuries cut his career short. Cade previously gave pitching lessons at Oahu Baseball Academy in HI before relocating to Charleston full-time.

Julia Kennedy was born and raised in Michigan. In 2018, her senior year of high school, she set the career home run record (55) for the state of Michigan and was named first-team all-state. Julia played Division I college softball at Miami (OH). There, she was a part of three regular season Mid-American Championships and one Mid-American Tournament Championship. Julia is excited to offer softball hitting and infield instruction.
